      The first westerns featuring singing cowboys cropped up in the early 's, and in when Ken Maynard and Gene Autry made a film called ''In Old Santa Fe'' the singing cowboy became a national. The United States Office of Indian Affairs published fifteen of her books between and , including Little Herder in Spring (),The Pine Ridge Porcupine (), Young Hunter of Picuris (), Singing Sioux Cowboy Reader (), and Little Navajo Herder (). Many of these books were bilingual, with the English and Indian.

    Richard Thomas Goldhahn (September 4, – Novem ), known professionally as Dick Thomas, was an American singing cowboy, songwriter, musician and was best known for his single "Sioux City Sue," a Number One country hit and No. 16 pop hit that year which later became a country music standard and was included in a Gene Autry movie.
